Status of Clean Indoor Air Legislation in Pennsylvania

One of the most asked questions on the topic of smoke-free workplace policy is “When will Pennsylvania finally pass legislation that will require all workplaces to be smoke-free?”. The good news is that it might be soon! Senate Bill 246 passed in the House and Senate last year but the differences in the bill between the two legislative bodies could not be agreed upon. Therefore a Conference Committee was formed to reach a compromise, a position that can be supported by the House and Senate. The Committee is actively working on that bill now and the goal is to have a bill passed before the Legislature recesses for the summer on June 30th. At this time, even the opposition agrees that passing smoke-free workplace legislation is inevitable. Working out the many details and exemptions is the difficulty that the Legislature must now resolve.

Clinical Outcomes Group, Inc. is monitoring this important legislation very closely and will have resources available to businesses when the law is passed. If you would like to be provided with implementation and educational materials for use in your business when the law is passed, please send your contact information in an email to info@COGInc.org and indicate Smoke Free PA in the subject line. We will contact you to provide the assistance you will need to be certain that your organization is in compliance with the new law.
